7. German-Japanese PIUS-Conference

Yokohama, Japan

The main topic of this year's 7th PIUS conference in Yokohama was material flow optimization. Methods, contents and potentials of product- and production-integrated environmental protection were presented and the ecological, but also economical chances were shown by practical examples. German and Japanese experts presented their experiences in the introduction of concepts for product and production integrated environmental protection in companies and showed possibilities and chances for cost reduction.

Prof. Nakajima from Kansai University explained the development of material flow cost accounting (MFCA) and the Japanese proposal for the international standardization of MFCA. Further contributions on this topic came from BASF Japan, Sekisui Chemical Corp. and TÜV Rheinland Japan, among others. The conference was rounded off by reports on experiences with the "PIUS Check" in Germany and Japan.

The more than 100 participants had the opportunity for personal discussions in a subsequent get-together. This year's partners were the Effizienz-Agentur NRW, TÜV Rheinland Japan, Kanagawa Prefecture and JETRO Yokohama. The next PIUS conference is scheduled to take place at HANNOVER MESSE in April 2008.
