ECOS History

After the first beginnings as a technology project developer, ECOS has developed since its foundation in 1988 into a unique specialist in Germany for German-Japanese cooperation in the field of environmental and energy technology.

 

1985

First beginnings as the project "EntwicklungsCenter OSnabrueck" for regional employment development

1988

Wilhelm Meemken founds ECOS Gesellschaft für Entwicklung und Consulting Osnabrück GmbH with 4 other shareholders

1990

ECOS initiates the first German-Japanese regional economic cooperation with the cities of Mühlheim-Essen-Oberhausen (MEO-NET) and Nagasaki Prefecture. Later this will be a model for the Local-to-Local program of JETRO

1990

Relocation to the C.U.T. Center for Environmental Technology in Osnabrück, for which ECOS has also developed a sustainable energy concept

1997

ECOS opens its own representative office in Kawasaki Science Park (KSP); representative is Daijo Tsunoda (previously Mitsubishi Corp.)

2004

ECOS office in Japan moves to Yokohama

2004

Initiation of the German Eco Housing Initiative (GEHI)

2005

ECOS initiates first German joint stand at the Japan Home and Building Show (JHBS)

2006

The German-Japanese Business Forum initiated by ECOS takes place for the first time at the Hannover Messe

2007

ECOS initiates the German-Japanese Environmental Dialogue Forum; the first edition takes place in Osnabrück

2008

On the initiative of ECOS, Japan becomes the partner country of the Hanover Fair for the first time

2009

Yasushi Iwamatsu (previously Mitsubishi Corp.) becomes new ECOS representative in Japan; ECOS office moves to Tokyo/Roppongi

2016

ECOS together with the Wuppertal Institute and the Institute of Energy Economics, Japan (IEEJ) establishes the German-Japanese Energy Transformation Council (GJETC)

2018

ECOS opens an office in Berlin

2019

ECOS opens a representative office in Fukuoka (West Japan)

2020

ECOS becomes representative of the State of Lower Saxony in Japan
